  6. Welcome to Nightwatch 2!  Please glance over these paragraphs,
  7. and if you have any questions call us!

  9. INSTALLATION:
  10.  
  11. Nightwatch 2 requires Apple's QuickTime for Windows, which
  12. is included on the disc.
  13.  
  14. To install Nightwatch 2, run the INSTALL.EXE program in
  15. the  root directory of the CD-ROM.  The installation is
  16. completely noninvasive and consists only of creating a program
  17. group and icons in the Program Manager which point to the
  18. CD-ROM drive applications.
  19.  
  20. The Quicktime MOVIE PLAYER is left in your New Machine
  21. program group.  Use this to view any *.mov files on the CD-
  22. ROM individually.

  25. OPERATION:
  26.  
  27. To begin your interactive adventure with Nightwatch 2, simply
  28. double click on the Nightwatch 2 icon (provided you are over
  29. 18, of course). You will be required to answer questions given
  30. by the the lovely security officer. To respond, single click one of
  31. the provided answers.  Be careful, if your responses don't agree
  32. with her, she will leave you to play with yourself.  By clicking
  33. one of the numbered rooms on the map screen, you can watch
  34. the hot action taking place inside. The FFWD,  RWD, PAUSE
  35. and PLAY buttons will respond only when a movie is playing.
  36. To quickly get to the end of a movie, click on the movie screen.
  37. Then PANIC button will place a black cover over your screen
  38. with the message "Your Computer is Off" in case it is necessary
  39. to conceal what you're doing. To terminate the program, hit the
  40. QUIT button.

  42. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
  43.  
  44. To use the Sampler you should have a 386-25DX or better CPU
  45. with 8-bit (256 color) graphics, a sound card, Microsoft
  46. Windows 3.1 and DOS 5.0, and a mouse.  Your PC should have
  47. at least 4MB of RAM, and a CD-ROM drive.
  48.  
  49. Be sure Windows is using a display driver that will provide 256
  50. colors.   This product is not designed for 16-color displays (eg.,
  51. the standard Windows VGA driver).  If your colors look bad,
  52. run Windows Setup to install the display driver provided by your
  53. video card manufacturer that supports 256 colors (any
  54. resolution).
  55.  
  56. Certain high-resolution video cards may require updated driver
  57. software for correct operation of QuickTime for Windows.
  58. Please contact your video board manufacturer to see if newer
  59. driver software is available.
  60.  
  61. Operation will be a little faster, the window will be physically
  62. largest, and best results are expected, if you use 640x480
  63. resolution rather than anything higher.  If you operate in
  64. 1024x768 resolution, you may find that the "small fonts" driver
  65. works better than the "large fonts" driver (or, less frequently,
  66. vice versa, depending who wrote the drivers).

  68. If you have problems reading any of your CD-ROMs check the
  69. CD-ROM for any scratches or finger prints. Use a soft cloth to
  70. wipe from the center to the edge. CD-ROMs are more
  71. vulnerable to damage than audio CDs, so always place them in
  72. the jewel box or CD caddies whenever possible.
  73.  
  74. Video play is improved by caching from the CD-ROM drive.
  75. The DOS 6.2 version of SmartDrive includes a CD cache which
  76. works well.  To use it, start smartdrv.exe from your autoexec.bat
  77. and include the following line in your config.sys file:
  78. device=c:\dos\smartdrv.exe /double_buffer
  79. See your DOS manual for more details.
  80.  
  81. Should you have a problem with a Sony CD-ROM drive (such as
  82. the CDU-31A which ships with many Gateway multimedia
  83. systems) which uses the SLCD.SYS driver, you should get an
  84. update of this driver if you have any version prior to 1.71A.
  85.  
  86. If memory managers such as QEMM or 386 MAX are used and
  87. the program does not work, sometimes the creation of a system
  88. boot disk which loads only the necessary devices, all loaded low,
  89. will fix the problem.

  91. If you have a Packard Bell System with a Headland Technology
  92. Video Card, your system's video may look displaced or
  93. elongated.  This is because the Headland Technology drivers are
  94. incompatible with QuickTime.  One of two things can be done:
  95. 1) Call Microsoft and get the Microsoft 640x480 256
  96. color driver and hope you have the 1MB video card on
  97. your system.  If you have the 512k card then this option
  98. will not help you.
  99. 2) Get a new video card.  The Headland Technology
  100. card, while compatible with some video, is not
  101. compatible with all.  Cards proven compatible such as
  102. the Trident, Diamond or Cirrus video cards are rather
  103. affordable, and provide compatible drivers on included
  104. diskettes.

  118. accuracy, reliability, currentness, and otherwise. The entire
  119. risk as to the results and performance of the software is assumed by you. The
  120. exclusion of implied warranties is not permitted by some jurisdictions. The above
  121. exclusion may not apply to you.

  123. In no event will New Machine Publishing, and their directors, officers, employees, or
  124. agents be liable to you for any consequential, incidental or indirect damages
  125. (including damages for loss of business profits, business interruption, loss of
  126. business information, and the like) arising out of the use or inability to use the
  127. software even if New Machine Publishing has been advised of the possibility of such
  128. damages. Because some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of limitation for
  129. consequential or incidental damages, the above limitations may not apply to you.
  130. New Machine Publishing's liability to you for actual damages from any cause
  131. whatsoever, and regardless of the form of the action (whether in contract, tort
  132. (including negligence), product liability or otherwise), be limited to $1.
